Professor Tarek Bouktir was born in Ras El-Oued, Algeria in 1971. After
graduating from Setif University (Algeria) in 1994
with the degree of Engineer in Electrical Engineering Power systems, he moved
to Annaba University (Algeria) where he obtained his Magister in 1998. He
pursued his postgraduate studies in power systems at Batna University (Algeria)
where he completed his PhD in 2003. He started his teaching as professor
assistant and later as associate professor at the department of Electrical and
Electronics Engineering in Larbi Ben Mhidi University of Oum El-Bouaghi (Algeria). He moved later in 2009 to Ferhat Abbas University of Setif
(Algeria).
At the age of 38, he became a full professor. During the last (10
years), he taught continuously at Ferhat Abbas Steif University. He was one of the main architect in
conducting several courses and PhD programs where he played a pivotal role in the
development of the discipline of electrical power systems and related
courses of academic studies in the department of electrical engineering. During
his years of active service in Algeria, he authored many published papers,
supervised many Master, Magister and PhD students, organized several
international conferences and national events and held several administrative and scientific positions. He served as
Director of Institute of Electrical Engineering, University of Larbi Ben MHidi, Oum El Bouaghi (Algeria) from 2003
to 2007
He was the key founder and the Editor-in-chief of the Journal of
Electrical Systems (JES) which would have never come to being
without Prof Tareks contribution. He worked hardly and gave unstintingly of
his time to accomplish its appearance from the first issue. He was also the founder
and Editor-in-Chief of Journal of Automation & Systems
Engineering (JASE).
Professor Bouktir Tarek was an epitome of self-discipline and an
analytical mind, an enthusiastic researcher in the study and pursuit of new
advances in electrical engineering and an indefatigable mentor in the guidance
and preparation of the new generation of young students and researchers.
Professor Tarek was one of the finest professors and leaders in Algeria
academia. He was a great man, all in humility, humor and sensitivity. He is an
exceptional being as there are very few with flexibility when dealing with
others; a quality that reflects his ability as person who knows, not only to
speak and explain complex points of many cases, but also to listen to the
opinions of others. He also taught others dedication and hard work, not only through
his words but rather by his good deeds, where his generosity of spirit, wisdom
and sense of humor made such a difference for his person.
The passing of Professor Bouktir Tarek is a big loss to the university and
the scientific community at large. He will be
remembered by his immense scientific contributions to his home university. His
character, ethical standards, scientific contribution, teaching and training of
many of young minds in the fields of electrical engineering will help to
continue the legacy of this exceptional scientific and honorable human being.
We were all saddened of his untimely passing, and sent our deepest
condolences to his family, friends and colleagues. While we share the sadness
of his family and friends, we ask Allah Almighty to forgive and have mercy upon
him, excuse and pardon him, and make honorable his reception; admit him into
the paradise; protect him from the punishment of the grave and the torment of
the hell fire.
